Singaporean firms selected to design Da Nang City master plan

Da Nang authorities have selected two Singaporean-based firms, Sakae Corporate Advisory Services and Surbana Jurong to assist city authorities in developing the city’s economic development strategy and the central city’s master plan, to the period of 2030.

It is estimated that by 2020 the population of Da Nang will be about 1.6 million people, with an urban population will be about 1.3 million. In 2030, the population of Da Nang is projected to grow to 2.5 million people with an urban population is about 2.3 million.

One of the research requirements of Da Nang City’s planning is; forecasting development needs in the context of regional development, while ensuring alignment with the strategic development plans that include the sustainable development of the maritime economy and the development of Da Nang as a “smart city” that has placed focus on sustainable urban development.

Since deciding in early 2018 that the city wanted the assistance of international companies and their unique perspectives, developments have moved forward quickly. 

On April 26, 2018, the Da Nang City Municipal People’s Committee, the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) and Sakae Holdings Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding on the introduction of Singaporean experts to help with the Da Nang City master plan.

On December 3, 2018, in an official document on the selection of advisers for the planning process, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc agreed the work would be carried out in line with Article 26 of the 2013 Law on Bidding.

On December 14, 2018, on behalf of the local authorities, the management board of Da Nang Infrastructure Construction and Urban Development Projects signed a principal contract with the two selected companies.

Following the agreement, Sakae Corporate Advisory – a subsidiary of Sakae Holdings Ltd which offers corporate advisory and strategic investor relations services – is set to assist Da Nang in designing its economic development strategy. At the same time, Surbana Jurong, which specializes in urban and infrastructure development will take care of the city’s master plan.
