Thailand’s Central Group plans to launch 20 new hotels in Vietnam

Thailand’s Centara Hotels & Resorts chain says that it plans to open 20 new hotels across Vietnam in the next five years. The locations for the company’s new hotels will be in Cam Ranh, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An Nha Trang and Phu Quoc. Thirayuth Chirathivat, CEO of Centara Hotels & Resorts said that, “Vietnam’s tourism industry enjoyed a great year in 2018 and we expect this to continue for many years to come.”

The company will also look to launch hotels in other cities where business and tourism growth look to expand, and includes Ho Tram, Mui Ne and Vung Tau as other locations that its studying. Decisions on the locations will be based upon evolving tourism growth patterns as well as proximity to airports, such as the new international airport in Dong Nai province, since the locations of airports will determine the potential mix of international visitors.

International visitor arrivals in Vietnam totaled 15.5 million in 2018, with more than 50% of this total coming from Asia. In the first half of this year, Vietnam saw international arrivals increase 7.5% year-on-year to 8.5 million f visitors in total.

Positive tourism trends are driving demand for new hotels and resorts. Recent data from hotel industry analysts STR Global shows that over 23,000 new hotel rooms are currently being constructed in Vietnam.
