Ho Chi Minh City officials are currently waiting for the national government to approve the city’s plans to “officially” increase the capital need to complete the city’s first metro line. The metro line was originally due to be completed in 2018 but with construction only 65% complete, 2022 is now the date the city says the metro will begin operations.

Metro line # 1, officially named the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien will be 19.7 kilometers and length and will consist of 14 stations. The line’s route includes a 2.6km underground section and 17.1km of elevated sections. This line will see the central districts of HCMC linked directly with the eastern parts of the city including District 2, District 9 and the Thu Duc District.
